Free video sharing app for DIYs

Google has joined the race of short video making with Tangi. Born out of the Area 120 lab, this social application focuses on creativity and do-it-yourself space. It is a free 60-second video-sharing application that aims to inspire users to take up activities like arts, cooking, fashion and beauty, and lifestyle. The app is a hub for creative types who wish to share their knowledge at the same time learn new things.

Tiktok meets Instagram and Pinterest

Tangi is very much like Tiktok in the sense that it lets you share short videos online. However, unlike the latter, this app wants people to learn new things. It focuses on creative content with quick one-minute videos.

The app’s interface is largely similar to Pinterest and Instagram. On top of the app is the search bar, where you can search for a particular subject. If you like to browse shared videos, you can also just scroll through and pick from the thumbnail. To narrow down your browsing, you can also choose among the categories under the search bar.

Users can add a caption to the videos they share. Viewers can, in turn, press the heart button if they like the video. Doing so leaves the video to your Liked section under your profile. They can also leave a comment. Once the video you choose runs its course, Tangi will automatically play the next video from the same category. You can skip the current video by clicking the More Like This button.

Unlike other video-sharing apps, Tangi encourages users to upload photos of their recreation of the video they liked. They only need to click the Try It button. With this, they can easily interact with the community.

Held back by limitations

Unlike popular social video apps, Tangi isn’t open to all. For one, it requires users to apply to be a part of the platform. This ensures that the videos remain focused on creativity and DIY activities. However, some users are only limited to leaving comments and liking the videos.

The 60-minute cap also can become limiting, especially if you are posting activities with lots of steps. Sure, you can place details on the caption, but that wouldn’t be enticing to some viewers. Moreover, the short-form nature means you might miss out on plenty of details. It also doesn’t hurt that there are platforms, like Youtube, that also come with video tutorials and can cater to longer videos.

Finally, the categories available are only limited to art, cooking, DIYs, fashion and beauty, and lifestyle. There is no technology section, so you’ll need to look elsewhere for that.

Take up a creative hobby

If you are into creative projects, then Tangi is the perfect app for you. The app comes with a clean interface that is very easy to navigate. Moreover, the video thumbnail is large, so you’ll have a clear idea of what it contains. And since it filters the videos shared in the platform, you are sure that what you see are DIYs and creative videos only. While there are still some limitations to the app, it is still a great way to inspire yourself to take up a creative hobby.
